Standard is one of several Apex Predator gameplay variants. It is the variant around which all of the races were designed, and as such, it is the most likely to produce balanced competitive play.

- Lizards: 1 Oviary, 4 Gulbars
- Beetles: 1 Thinker, 4 Harvesters
- Virus: 1 Stagnant Reservoir, 4 Maggots

- Rats, Lizards, and Beetles may only gather resources for the first 20 rounds of play
- Virus may only produce Maggots for the first 20 rounds of play
